Union Academy Middle School Athletics
Union Academy Middle School Athletics are governed by the rules and regulations of the North Carolina Department of Instruction (NCDPI), which align with the rules and regulations of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA). Per these guidelines, participation in middle school sports is offered to current 6th-8th grade students.
The Union Academy Middle School teams are members of the Carolinas Beltway Conference and offer a wide variety of male, female, and coed teams during the fall, winter, and spring seasons.
For team participation, annual membership in the Cardinal Athletic Club, an annual physical, and an approved Athletic Clearance are required.
Each coach receives annual training and can acquire levels of certification through the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS). This training includes but is not limited to CPR/AED certification, Teaching & Modeling Behavior, Sportsmanship and Concussion Awareness. Union Academy received a national recognition for certification of football coaches in the "Heads Up" program, which focuses on safe practices and guidelines to prevent concussions. In 2020-21, Union Academy Charter School was nationally recognized as a Level 1 Honor School by the NFHS for having over 90% of the coaching staff earn certification in additional courses offered through the program.
Please visit each team's webpage to view specific sports information, including coach's contact information and game and practice schedules.
Mandatory Requirements
Per state requirements, in order for students to participate in any athletic workouts, tryouts, practices or contests during the current academic year, an UPDATED PHYSICAL and COMPLETED ATHLETIC PACKET must be on file. Please make sure all appropriate paperwork is up to date and submitted through the Athletic Clearance website. Direct any questions about this process to your child's coach, Cameron Carpenter (Athletic Trainer) or Justin Frashier (Athletic Director).
